In 1836 A law was passed providing pensions to surviving revolutionary war soldiers and/or their widows. Mary filed an application and during the process she was asked to obtain proof of her marriage to John Pipes. The family hired an attorney who obtained the necessary deposition about the marriage record in the1st Presbyterian Church in Morristown, New Jersey where they were married in August of 1777.
