An Interview With Sarah H. (Pipes) Munson.
In the spring of 2009 our cousin, Tara Harl, made a trip to New Orleans to visit with some of our Louisiana Pipes family. She wrote the article on this web site about her visit there and of her time spent with Bill Borah, a descendant of the Pipes family in Mississippi and Louisiana. After that visit, Tara was able to get Sarah H. (Pipes) Munson who is in her late 80s and a niece of David Washington Pipes to agree to a phone interview that would be recorded and the audio made available here for everyone to hear.
Sarah Humphries Pipes was born in February of 1923, the daughter of William Henry Pipes Jr. and Mary Butler. Her grandfather, William Henry Senior, was a brother to David Washington Pipes. William Senior was also an officer in the Civil War and was a Captain in the15th Tennessee Infantry. As Sarah was growing up it was not unusual for her family to visit the home of David Washington Pipes and his wife Anna Key (Fort) Pipes in the Garden District of New Orleans. Sarah has many memories of David Washington Pipes and was 17 years old and in High School when he passed away in September of 1939.
After many phone conversations and some coaxing by Tara, Sarah finally agreed to this interview and in May of 2010 the recording was made.
