John Pipes Sr.         Massachusetts    1736

This is the place where we first learn of John Pipes Sr.. His marriage to Susannah Hathaway, daughter of Abraham Hathaway of Berkley, Bristol Co., Massachusetts is recorded in the town records stored in Taunton, Mass. The ceremony was recorded by Sylvester Richards in October of 1736.  The Hathaway family had been in this area since 1638 when Nicholas Hathaway was first noted in Braintree and Boston. Nicholas was an immigrant from London, England. We know that Abraham and all of his children sold their land and moved to Morristown, New Jersey in the next year. The Hathaway and Pipes family remained close for several generations in New Jersey and also into Pennsylvania.
